Distancing

A simple illustration of the impact of social distancing to control the spread of an epidemics.
Each unit has a probability p to transmit the virus to a nearby unit. Such probability depends moreover on the distance between the units.
Each unit has a recovery time, after which a period of immunization begins.
Each unit has a probability of dying, which depends also on the total number of infected units. This reasonably mimics the consequence of burdening the health care system.
The curve represents the number of infected, hence possibly ill, units during a given window of time.
Move the slider to modify the distance between units.
